Prof. Viraj Kumar is a Visiting Professor at the Kotak-IISc AI-ML Centre at IISc Bangalore. After completing his PhD from UIUC (2007), he taught Computer Science courses at a range of liberal arts and research institutions in the US before returning to pursue his passion: advancing quality education in India. His primary research area is in Computer Science education, and his recent focus is on understanding the educational impact of Gen AI. He has co-authored IISc's policy on the use of Gen AI for teaching and research, and his NPTEL course on Programming with Gen AI had reached over 44,000 learners. He serves as an elected member of the ACM India Council, co-chairing its educational initiatives. Prof Kumar serves as a member of NCERT's Textbook Development Team for Class 11 and 12 Computer Science textbooks. Previously, he served as a consultant to the Kasturirangan Committee to draft the National Education Policy (NEP2020).
