The Ramaiah Institutions were founded in the year 1962 by the late Dr. M. S. Ramaiah, a visionary leader and philanthropist in the field of education and healthcare, whose commitment to accessible, quality education laid the foundation for a legacy that continues to grow and evolve. The Gokula Education Foundation ( Medical) was established in 1979.

The Gokula education foundation (Medical) has taken the initiative to establish the Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM) a distinct greenfield deemed to be University dedicated to STEM and management education. Under the leadership of Dr. M. R. Jayaram, Trustee and Chairman of Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) , RISM is conceived of as a forward-looking University of academic excellence, delivering high-quality, globally relevant learning through knowledge partnerships with the State University of New York at Albany. Its programmes are industry-driven, innovative, and aligned with emerging professional landscapes to prepare students for global careers.​ ​

Now, he has envisaged to create a STEM and Management University with a new dimension of learning that brings global-quality education in partnership with State University of New York at Albany. With over 50 years of hands-on experience in higher education and healthcare, Dr. Jayaram has played an instrumental role in strengthening and nurturing several Ramaiah institutions that have contributed significantly to education and healthcare in the country.​ ​​

Among these, the Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), established in 2014, has grown into a multidisciplinary university with 13 faculties across two campuses in Bangalore. It is recognised for its academic standards, with a NAAC A+ accreditation and a strong presence in national rankings. The Ramaiah Medical College under the university is regarded among the leading medical institutions in India.​ ​​

Complementing the academic ecosystem is Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, a 500-bed multi-speciality hospital in Bangalore located adjacent to the Indian Institute of Science campus. Known for its advanced care and quality standards, it has earned national recognition and international accreditation, while also engaging in global collaborations.​ ​​

Building on this strong legacy, Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM) represents the next step in the evolution of the Ramaiah educational vision.
